Everyone wants the freedom to travel – the freedom to become a digital nomad. But realistically, who can accomplish this? There are the issues of making enough money, where to go, how to stay safe in your travels, so on and so forth. Being a digital nomad may sound glamorous, but one must think long and hard before committing to this type of lifestyle.

The true digital nomad is one who has the ability to make money anywhere. However, the desire to make money online and actually doing it are two completely different things. Indeed, it is easier said than done!

Long Term Travel is Increasing

Why is this particular nomadic lifestyle focused on slow, long term travel catching on in recent years? Is it because people are getting tired of spending their waking hours in a cubicle? Is it a longing for more freedom – or for a physical connection with the rest of the world? Is it that child-like longing to discover the world that lies deep inside all of us? Whatever it is, anyone from college students to families of 4 to senior citizens are opting for a digital nomad life via long term travel that takes them from one end of the earth to the other. It’s quite exciting actually; this is refreshing.

What Types of Things Can We Do to Make Money Anywhere?

Yeah, yeah I know what you’re thinking… This whole “make money online” thing is a big, giant scam! Most of the time, you’re right. Those medical billing and envelope stuffing crap are almost always scams. To make money anywhere, you need a legit method that doesn’t involve sketchy online activities. Let me suggest a few techniques that I use to make money from anywhere in the world I happen to be at the time:

1. I have a few flagship websites/blogs that I sell software or ebooks on. I can take care of customers’ questions, orders, etc from anywhere that I can fetch an internet connection with my laptop.

2. I have a bunch of basic Adsense niche blogs that rank well for their keywords and get a few clicks on each one everyday. I have hundreds of these, BTW. This is the ultimate way to make money anywhere, let me tell you! Just handle your Adsense account with care and don’t violate Google’s TOS for any reason.

3. I am an occasional travel writer and go on assignment at various locations around the world. All of my writing can be done on my laptop and submitted online. This one is fun for digital nomads. Travel writing really does allow me to make money anywhere when I can land a travel job. Sometimes it can be tough as you need plenty of connections in the travel writing industry.

In summary, long term travel can be extremely liberating and a wholesome goal of many, but it can also be an ongoing challenge. If you’re up for the challenge, I say go for it and take the plunge to become a full time digital nomad! Life is what you make it, so make it great!
